Budgeting is a great tool for living a better life. I would add one piece of advice: don't overdo it on the categories. Broad categories, like those mentioned here, are great. If you want to get more granular, make sure you understand what the broad categories cover first. Trying to manage a budget with 100s of top-level categories makes it more work; you'll stop using it and/or you'll get lost in the details.

Completely agree, great advice! Broad buckets lead to speedy consistency, while granular buckets lead to on-going analysis paralysis.
